The Cumbrian Triangles Quilt is part of The Quilters’ Guild Museum Collection, and was made around 1899 from triangles of printed dress and furnishing cottons. It is one of two quilts (the Cumbrian Frame Quilt) made for Elizabeth Mitchell for her marriage to Robert Knipe in 1899. The family history credited her sister, Bertha with making the quilt, but census information tells us she was born in 1896, making her only 3 years old at the time. The two quilts were passed on through the family to celebrate another three generations of marriages until both quilts were donated to The Quilters’ Guild in 2005.
