Made between 1875 and 1900, The Hearts and Crosses coverlet is a beautiful piece of late Victorian patchwork in The Quilters Guild Collection. With contrasting stripes running in alternate directions and delicate applique to the borders this is a great quilt for using up scraps or by starting fresh with a jelly roll. This pattern was written by BQSG member Carolyn Gibbs and is true to the original quilt.
Presented in book format with a spiral binding this pattern has full instructions on how to make the full quilt or you can scale back an make a cushion or lap quilt version.
Why not adapt it to your own quilting style as Sue Jenkins has (see images) with improv crosses and quilted hearts instead of applique.
